The Yellow Envelope is Here!

Today is the day!

The Yellow Envelope is finally here!!

Five years ago, back before I quit my job, sold all of my stuff and set out on this journey, I wrote a blog post called “Why I’m Quitting my Job to Travel.” In the post, I tried to explain my desire for more:

“I don’t really even know what more is. All I know is that more has something to do with traveling and writing. I know it has something to do with stepping away from my cubicle and my dictated schedule and living. It has something to do with expanding the orb that my life rotates in. More is a physical desire, a yearning, the way others must long for a child or for someone who is gone.”

Back then, if you’d told me that I’d be writing to you on the day my book is published (!!!!! Please note there are not enough exclamation points in the world to express how I feel!!!!!), I wouldn’t have believed it. I have to admit that somewhere deep down I always did think this day could come, but it felt like a near-impossible dream. (I mean, landing on the moon isn’t out of the realm of possibility either- others have done it, but me? Unlikely).

And so, before I dive into my announcements today, I just want to take this little moment to acknowledge that my desire for more was not some starry-eyed delusion (as I feared, many times) but instead a solid, inner truth pointing me in the right direction all along. No matter what happens in the future, I will think of this day as the moment it all came full circle– and for that I am awed, humbled and grateful.

The Yellow Envelope is here!

The Yellow Envelope: One Gift, Three Rules and a Life-Changing Journey Around the World is published today! It’s available at your local bookstore, Barnes & Noble and Amazon. Target just chose The Yellow Envelope for its emerging authors program– and you can find it on their shelves beginning April 25!

I am elated. I am terrified. I really hope you like the book. Today I am loading my one-year-old into the car and driving to every bookstore within a 30-mile radius to stare at it on the shelves. I can hardly believe this is happening… but it is!!

If you’re in the Cincinnati area please join me tonight (4/4/17) at Joseph-Beth booksellers in Hyde Park for The Yellow Envelope book launch. I’ll be discussing, reading and signing the book as well as trying not to hyperventilate in front of the crowd.

In the coming weeks and months I will strike out on The Yellow Envelope book tour. I’ll be stopping in the following cities (with more to come) and you can learn all the details here:

Columbus, OH * Vancouver, WA * Portland, OR * Bowling Green, KY * Nashville, TN * Asheville, NC * Boone, NC * Madison, WI * Dubuque, IA * Perrysburg, OH * Morgantown, WV * Tigard, OR * Vancouver, BC- Canada * River Falls, WI * Omaha, NE * Harrisonburg, VA *

I hope to see you on the road!

One more thing…

Before I close here I just want to extend a heartfelt thank you. Many of you have been reading this blog for a long time and have followed my journey even before I left Portland. Your support- and the support of the new readers along the way- have meant more than I can express. It is an honor to share this space with you.

Congratulations Kim! I am anxiously awaiting my delivery from Amazon! Yours is a wonderful saga of staying true to oneself – especially in the midst of LOTS of doubts and fear. As they say in Australia, Good on Ya, Kim!!

Congratulations Kim!!!!!

I’m so excited to read your book once I’m back stateside in less than 3 weeks (and to meet you, too!). It has been so inspirational to read along and follow your blog over the years… I feel lucky to have “known” you before the book, from your U.S. road trip to Sayulita, Juniper, and now The Yellow Envelope. Thank you for sharing your journey; it has inspired many already, and will continue to inspire many more. Enjoy these moments! 🙂

Congratulations Kim! It is so amazing to see you experience the elation of seeing this dream through. It’s clear it took so much heart and persistence and I so admire you for that. I just ordered my copy from the UK! (Amazon Spain let me down on this one.) Can’t wait to see where this takes you next.

Con.grat.u.lations Kim!! 🙂 I think I only have a vague idea of how this must feel for you. Probably a bit like chopping a chunk of wood from a magical tree of life, spending years and years with tools like curiosity, imagination and passion shaping it and finally marvelling at the final piece which in a way seems pretty unreal…
Good luck and savour every single breath on the thing that is probably more than a “book tour”. May you inspire and connect with a few people along the way!

Hi Kim,

I just bought your book today at Annie Blooms Book Store in Portland and have spent a chunk of this cloudy windy afternoon reading. It is a great and inspiring read. Congratulations. I am sorry I won’t be able to go to your reading here in Portland with some of the other PWB folks (mom duties call) but wish you the best on your continued and evolving journey!

Kim, congratulations on the release of your book! I am about half way through it now, and I love the way your book complements your blog by recounting your internal struggles and relationship changes during your travels. I am enjoying it very much!

Hi Kim, Got my book in the mail today and am excited to read it. Wow…it’s much bigger than I thought! So exciting for you to publish this book. And I’m excited to read it. I learned of you and your adventures thru a past co-worker (Wendy). I hope to meet you in person some day and would love to have you autograph my books. Would love to travel everywhere, but I have that house, job, husband, cats, aging parents…so hard to figure out how. If only I knew in my 20’s what I know now. I think it’s great you figured it out! I do get to travel but never as much as I’d like to. I’m also looking forward to reading Life on Fire. Diane

I just this minute finished reading the very engaging, exciting, insightful, story of just letting go and doing life. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be sharing it with my 85 year old Dad who is my reading buddy extraordinaire. Thank you for sharing your story and inspiring me and many others to see the good in others and to also see the little bits of good we are blessed to share with others as we sojourn through this gift we call life. Many blessings to you.
