She’s Here!

Brian and I are thrilled to announce that Juniper Ruth has finally decided to join us. She was born ten days late on the first day of autumn, September 23rd, at 3:02 in the afternoon weighing 8 lbs. 2 oz. and 21 inches long. We are so in love.

Juniper Ruth

When she decided to make her appearance she came quickly. Labor was the most intense and amazing experience I’ve ever had and I’ll share the story soon (she came so fast I wasn’t even admitted into the hospital beforehand). It was a natural birth (no drugs!!) and I used a doula who talked me through the worst of it. She was worth her weight in gold.

Juniper Ruth

Right now Brian and I are spending our days just staring at this beautiful new little person in our lives. I barely have words to describe how I feel. “Love” and “happy” feel so flat compared to this swelling in my heart. She’s the best thing. Ever.

Juniper Ruth

She had her first doctor’s appointment today and this is the room they put us in. Pretty perfect.

Of all the amazing adventures you two have had, I guarantee this will top them all! Such a beautiful and lucky little girl to have such awesome parents. I’m so happy for you guys, at the very start of the wonderful, scary, roller coaster that is parenthood – the joy she will bring you – is already bringing you – is priceless. Big love to you all xxxxl

Hi Sarah. While I was pregnant everyone would tell us to prepare for the biggest adventure of our lives and now that Juniper is here I know what they mean. I love it. We may not be moving much but the adventure is changing my heart. I feel like my world has become both small and infinite. Best decision ever.

Congrats! Love that you had a doula. A friend of mine is a doula & it sounds like a good way to go. Also, it’s probably good Juniper made her appearance so quickly after making you wait 10 extra days!

I am so glad you pretty much got to have exactly the birth experience you wanted (albeit 10 days late!) and that you’ve simply been soaking up your time with Juniper now that she’s here. And she’s so itty bitty! Love the room they put you guys in for her first doctor’s appointment; very apropo indeed!

Haha, Brian and I swore we’d buy an amazing bottle of gin to celebrate her arrival but we haven’t done it yet. Someday (soon I hope) I need to type out her birth story and the story of her name (we did not name her after alcohol although you probably wouldn’t be surprised if we did).

Reply

Kim October 13, 2015 at 7:35 am

Thanks Jodi!! I couldn’t believe how fast she came either. My doula told me that if I have another kid I better head to the hospital at the first contraction or she doesn’t think I’ll make it. I guess when Juniper made up her mind to arrive she wasn’t wasting anymore time.

Kim! She is just beautiful, and I adore her name. I have been a longtime (behind-the-scenes) reader, and am just so happy for you two. I always update my fiance with things like, “The people who quit their job to travel are pregnant!”, “The people who quit their job to travel are due soon!”, “Look at the lady who quit her job to travel! She’s ready to pop!” It’s so awesome to have followed Juniper’s journey. Best of luck!

What a beautiful baby girl, congratulations! <3 I've been following your pregnancy with extra interest since our own baby boy was due 19th of September, very close to yours, and I loved your post announcing your pregnancy. Our globetrotter was in a hurry and was born four weeks early in August. I wish you guys all the best; motherhood is an adventure and I am surprised every day by the amount of love I have for our little one. Take care and enjoy!

Kim October 13, 2015 at 7:39 am

Ah, four weeks early!!! I was so jealous of everyone (like you) who had babies due after mine but their babies came before mine did. I thought she would never come πŸ™‚ Congratulations on your new son. It’s a pretty amazing feeling, isn’t it?

Mari October 16, 2015 at 10:25 am

It was quite a shock when my water broke that early; I would have liked to keep him inside for a little bit longer πŸ™‚ But I guess that’s how it goes, we’re not in charge anymore, they’re the boss now πŸ˜€ It really is something else; he’s asleep on my lap right now and I rather twist my back than move him <3

Reply

Kim November 1, 2015 at 6:41 am

Oh yes, I can only imagine the shock! I’m glad all is well. And you are right, we are DEFINITELY not in charge anymore. I keep telling Brian we need to get Juniper a onesie that says BOSS.

There was a point where, had it been an option, I probably would have taken the drugs. Man… I don’t even have words to describe the feeling. It’s not pain, it’s BEYOND pain. Anyway, in the end all that matters is that mamas are healthy and babies are healthy!
