It’s hard to decide where to plan your next holiday. Recently, after 7-months of non-stop work, I was trying to decide where I should head next. My travel style these days tends to lean towards slower, more long-term stays. I’ve also found that I like to travel to locations that have both beaches and mountains- the best of both worlds! With the whole world to choose from it is hard to decide where to head next. Here’s what I consider when choosing my next adventure.
What countries have great beaches and mountains?
As I said before, it’s important for me to have access to both beaches and mountains. Plenty of countries offer up the goods, from Thailand to Columbia and plenty of places in between. Countries such as New Zealand and Australia have natural wonders that abound. Indonesia and other countries in SE Asia also fit the bill.
Where can I find a great deal?
Travel isn’t cheap, especially international travel but there are plenty of amazing deals that are offered. I will generally set up travel alerts with my favorite travel search engines so that I can get a notification when the price to my desired destination drops. Working this way, I was able to find some very inexpensive flights to Mexico as well as specialist Australian package tours at a good price. The rule of thumb to finding great deals is to search the web far and wide and be open to any number of destinations as long as they offer your must-have items.
Where haven’t I been before?
I’ve been lucky to travel to many places all over the world. I’ve seen North and South America, Europe, Asia, and SE Asia. I haven’t yet been to Australia or New Zealand and have spent only a limited amount of time in Central America. So, while I’ve been to many places I also have a lot of places to choose from! I also consider traveling to countries that I’ve already been to before if they are countries that top out as my favorite.
What feels right?
When it comes down to it, if a country meets all of the criteria above I will always decide based on what feels right. This time around, I chose to head to Mexico. The reason that I selected Mexico is because it just felt right! It is a relatively short flight from home, had both mountains and the ocean and on top of that I found a good deal online. I’ll see you at the beach (or in the mountains!).
