The lovely Caribbean Island of St. Martin

One of the most beautiful and accessible vacation destinations from the United States are the Caribbean islands. A holiday to the Caribbean islands will feel like a world away though in reality the Caribbean islands are only a short flight from the United States.

One of the most fun and visited Caribbean islands is the island of St. Martin (also spelled St. Maarten), an island in the northeast of the Caribbean, east of Puerto Rico. The island is divided between France and the Netherlands and has a population of less than 100,000.

St. Martin’s Dutch side is known for its exciting nightlife while the French side is known for nude beaches, outdoor markets and cuisines. The whole island is famous for it’s incredible blue waters that are perfect for snorkeling, kayaking, and of course just relaxing nearby with a book in one hand and a drink in the other.

Water sports abound on the island and many visitors charter a fishing boat or take a scenic ride to Anguilla to snorkel the reefs or visit the Dolphin Fantasies Park to swim with dolphins. Water skiing, kit surfing, jet skiing, sail boating and parasailing are all popular activities to enjoy while visiting the island. The island will especially charm visitors who love boating during the month of March when the Heineken Regatta comes to town.

After a day at the beach visitors always enjoy the nightlife and dining on the island. There are a number of nightclubs and bars to dance the night away at. If you’re a gambling fan, there are casinos to be visited. And with over 300 restaurants on the island one is sure to find a meal to suit their fancy.

There are villas in St. Martin from Rental Escapes as well as rental houses and hotels so a traveler should have no problem finding the right accommodation for whatever they are seeking. Personally, I love to stay in a place with a fresh water pool that is only steps away from the white sand beaches. I find it is the perfect combination of wild waves and relaxing luxury. A hammock and swim-up bar are always welcomed as well.

No matter what you fancy the island of St. Martin definitely has what it takes to keep you entertained. Whether you’re searching for a party or just a relaxing trip to a stunning beach, you’ll find it all on this Caribbean island.
