Thank you for the kindness of the people who reach out to me through this blog. Their words inevitably find me just when I need them. They are an indispensable piece of the thing that drives me forward.
Thank you for the poet Lucille Clifton. Thank you for these lines of hers that I read this morning:
a woman proceeds me up the long rope/ her dangling braids the color of rain/ maybe i should have had braids./ maybe i should have kept the body i started,/ as slim and possible as a boy’s bone./ maybe i should have wanted less/ maybe i should have ignored the bowl in me/ burning to be filled.
Life, thank you for reminding me that the questions never go away but that the quest for answers is true and valuable. Some of us are seekers, even though we do not always know what we are searching for.
Thank you for the conversation I just had with my husband. Thank you for the feeling of lightness that comes when we sit down and talk from the truest part of ourselves.
Thank you for these few months of my life which have been so much more difficult than I imagined but which I know are a crucial part of the journey.
Life, I know there is meaning hidden in every single one of your challenges. I trust you.

Thank you giving me the opportunity to embrace alone time…
…even if that alone time falls on a holiday that I would rather spend with my family.
Thank you for my furry four-legged kids that love me unconditionally and believe that I can save them from scary fireworks.
Thank you for my family. I love them dearly and miss them every single day.
Thank you for phones and the internet so I can stay in touch with my family whenever I want.
Thank you for the beautiful weather we are having in the Pacific Northwest.
Thank you for the breath-taking and challenging hikes I’ve done this summer and will continue to do for the rest of the summer.
Thank you for my orthopedic surgeon. After way too many knee surgeries I think (hope and pray) that health is in my future.
And finally, I want to say thank you for pointing me to Kim’s blog before she even started her great adventure. Before I wished I could do something like she is doing. Now I know I can and will someday.
Thank you for the beings in my life that bring me so much joy. My kitty Hobbes leaps in my arms, snuggles into my hair, and makes biscuits on my neck each and every time I see him. My boyfriend Nelson calls and texts me throughout the day just to say, “I love you.” And thankfully, he doesn’t try the leaping or biscuit-making.
Thank you for awareness. Since my epic vacation, I’ve been feeling blue. Re-reading some old notes reminded me it’s up to ME to raise my vibration, to “up-level” my attitude. Music and inspiring speeches are the ticket. Watch me boogie!
Thank you for my garden. It brings me joy, contentment and food! It’s so satisfying to see the squash blossoms turn into yummies. To watch the green tomatoes turn beautiful shades of red, purple or yellow.
Thank you for possibilities. As the future unfolds, the possibilities are endless. I’ve chosen the ones I want and watching them come to fruition is exciting.
And finally, thank you for words and writing. The more I write, the better I feel.
Share your own thank you note to life.
