Take me there

Are you drawn to the bright white beaches of hidden Thailand in The Beach? Or do Sex and the City 2’s sultry souls suit your travel tastes? Cinema can make even the most home-loving of creatures seek sunnier climes. The transformative power of the world’s most famous sights coming alive on the big screen can transport you to places that you might only dream of.

Most people can recall at least one movie that made them want to stroll from the auditorium straight on to a plane. But the question on HolidayExtras.co.uk is which film gave you the itchiest feet? Which most inspired you to travel? Delicious, location-rich films have something special which make them irresistibly watchable. Day-to-day life can get dull, and films with exotic scenery can lift the mood, and take you to a place that is a million miles from the ordinary banality of the office. The journeys can be soul-searching pilgrimages, a break with friends or the ultimate family holiday. Whatever you’re after, there will be a film out there to inspire you. The combination of an uplifting film set in a faraway paradise is surely the ultimate tonic.

For many it’s the sun-drenched, free-living atmosphere of The Beach’s untrodden groves and majestic waterfalls that inspires them to book that once-in-a-lifetime holiday. For others, watching Carrie and Co. perusing the markets of Abu Dhabi proves too much of a pull. Whatever your dream break may consist of, you’re sure to find a director who has masterfully assimilated all the elements for you, now all you have to do is recreate it.

Vote for what you think is the most inspirational travel film.

Voted. And as much as I wanted to chose ‘Lost in Translation’ because it is one of my all time favorite movies, I admit I chose “Eat Pray Love” – I didn’t want to do it, I didn’t really even want to see it, but I’ve found myself thinking about it every since – and I guess it was… inspiring.

Oh yeah, I loved it too (the book more than the movie though). Did you read the book?

It wasn’t on their list, but UP by pixar inspired us to take the leap.
